Acne, the most frequent skin disorder worldwide, often emerges at the onset of adolescence. Nevertheless this skin disease might also invade your peaceful life at some point of adult stage and could become the cause of your social embarrassment and psychological depression. Most of us oftentimes struggle to find out the appropriate acne treatment for our skin type. Many over-the-counter acne treatments either impose a number of side effects or might appear as incompetent remedy to blot out acne lesions due to less effectivity. In this situation you might feel the need for a planned and systematic approach toward the whole acne treatment procedure which could efficiently remove acne blemishes root and branch forever. Here comes the role of proactive acne treatment.

What is Proactive Treatment?

The mantra of proactive treatment procedure is to raid the core reason of acne breakouts and rooting out acne flare ups through a perfect regimen. The entire procedure is aimed to prevent our skin permanently from unsightly acne blotches. The whole system consists of three vital steps designed by two scientists from Stanford University—Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. These three steps, which are only meant for external therapeutic purposes, use Combination Therapy. This therapy is a blend of numerous valuable and effective medications which are efficient in eliminating all of the causative factors of mild to moderate acne condition. The whole maneuver is comprised of

a)    Renewing cleanser
b)    Revitalizing toner
c)    Repairing lotion

a) Renewing cleanser

As the first step of whole proactive acne treatment regimen it works by draining out the accumulated oil and dead skin cells from the pores. Being totally oil free, this cleanser is the ideal match for acne affected skin. Its especially formulated wee granules help to open up infected blocked pores and get rid of stacked dead skin cells and rusty oil. Benzoyl peroxide being an essential constituent of renewing cleanser penetrates inside the unclogged pores and obliterates the proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria—the resident microorganism responsible for acne vulgaris.

Other than benzoyl peroxide the cleanser contains water, magnesium aluminum silicate, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, and a number of natural and synthetic elements. It is advised to be used daily for two times. A little amount of cleanser should be dabbed over the acne affected areas and afterwards you need to wash it off with warm water and pat dry.

This proactive acne treatment enhances the photosensitivity of the skin and therefore you need to use a suitable sun screen cream or lotion while going out under the sun. If you are not comfortable with benzoyl peroxide then this cleanser might not be suitable for you.

b) Revitalizing toner

In this second step, revitalizing toner helps to strip off excess oil from the skin and moisturizes the whole area to make the skin soft and flexible. This alcohol-free toner is an excellent exfoliator which casts off dead skin cells and helps to rejuvenate the skin surface.

The toner is a combination of several useful natural and synthetic ingredients which primarily include water, glycolic acid, hamamelis virginiana extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, anthemis nobilis flower extract, and rosa canina fruit extract. This mild preparation essentially tones the natural and other skin types in a perfectly balanced way. You need to use this toner following the renewing cleanser. A small amount of toner should be applied all over the skin surface using a cotton pad and left for drying.

Same as cleanser this toner might aggravate the photosensitivity of skin and therefore it is advisable to use a sunscreen lotion or cream before going out at day time.

c) Repairing lotion

This proactive acne treatment lotion helps to kill the residual bacteria and to recover from the acne blemishes, thereby prohibiting any resurgence of acne.

Repairing lotion is designed with the inclusion of well-known antibacterial agent benzoyl peroxide with a moderate 2.5% strength. Other than this chemical it also includes many natural as well as synthetic resources such as, glyceryl stearate, propylene glycol, cyclomethicone, and ethoxydiglycol. Following the revitalizing toner this lotion should be applied regularly over the clear and toned skin. Dab a little amount over the skin and make a thin layer, let it dry up, and leave it on instead of washing off.

This lotion could be harmful to your skin if it is sensitive toward benzoyl peroxide. Similar to other two steps you need to use sun screen lotion or cream before going out during day time.

Side effects

Although it is mostly tolerable by acne sufferers, in some cases it might cause irritation, redness, and burning sensation on your skin surface. If you are facing any sort of side effects after using this topical medication immediately consult with your physician. Unless directed by your dermatologist, try not to use any other topical or oral medication for acne while undergoing proactive acne treatment.
