This is the big question that almost everyone asks about acne and it has been much disputed for many years. There is hardly anyone who does not like chocolate, that is why we have always wanted to know if it actually can cause acne or not. I’m sure that you heard at least one person, or more, say that chocolate can cause acne. Though some people report their acne worsens after eating certain foods, there is no scientific evidence showing that chocolate — or any other food for that matter — directly causes or worsens acne. Instead, acne is caused when hormonal changes — most often during puberty — cause oil glands underneath the skin’s surface to produce excess oil. In addition, skin cells lining hair follicles shed more rapidly during puberty, and when mixed with oil, clog the openings of follicles. A normal skin bacteria can multiply in the follicle and produce irritation, inflammation and the various types of skin lesions associated with acne.
Myth: Eating chocolate or junk foods causes acne or makes it worse.
Fact: Acne is a hormonal problem. No food, including chocolate, can cause it. But because your mother warned you to keep away from chocolate back when you were a pimply teenager, you reflexively continue to pass that same advice along to your children.

There are also some company that puts chocolate in their skin creams as softener and chocolate contains also anti-oxidant which can help to prevent wrinkles. This can be very good for our skin as our skin oxidize and form wrinkles thus this can help us to prevent or slow the process down.

But wait chocolate lovers, there’s more good news. Dark chocolate contains flavenoids, an antioxidant known to lower cholesterol. So it’s possible eating a certain amount will reduce your risk for heart disease. And as if that weren’t enough, Dr. Koop has the scoop on an Italian researcher who has claimed a link exists between eating chocolate and sexual fulfillment.

Now, no one’s suggesting you eat too much chocolate. But let’s review: doesn’t cause acne, may be good for the heart, possibly increases sexual satisfaction. C’mon, broccoli, what have you got to say now?
