How to Control Acne
June 16, 2008 · Filed Under Acne Prevention · Comment
Acne is a hereditary condition brought on by hormonal changes that cause the oil glands to secrete too much oil (sebum). Excessive sebum, along with dead skin cells, creates a blockage in the pore, which breeds bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes). As a result, the pore becomes swollen, inflamed, and irritated. Acne may be aggravated further by emotional stress, environmental factors, picking at a pimple (which can spread bacteria, causing more pimples), and occasionally by diet.
